LCS Chrome Wheat

LCS Chrome from Limagrain Cereal Seeds is an exciting new variety that is widely adapted in the central plains, doing well in all of Kansas and Oklahoma, as well as in portions of Texas, Colorado, and Nebraska. It is a high tilling variety with top-end yield potential and excellent acid soil tolerance and straw strength.  LCS Chrome is resistant to leaf rust, stripe rust, and soil borne mosaic. It is moderately resistant to barley yellow dwarf, Hessian Fly, and tan spot.  With its medium maturity and height and very good drought tolerance, LCS Chrome is a superior choice for growers.

WB4303 Wheat

WestBred’s new WB4303 is a variety adapted to the eastern two-thirds of Kansas and Oklahoma.  It has exceptional high-end yield potential, great grazing potential, and is good for intensive management.  This variety has good drought tolerance, but excellent straw strength will let it go under irrigation.  WB4303 is a medium maturity, medium short wheat, with good acid soil tolerance.  A fungicide will facilitate full yield potential.  Test weight is below normal.

Zenda Wheat

Zenda, a new hard red winter wheat from Kansas Wheat Alliance, is an excellent choice for wheat acres after corn in central and eastern Kansas.  An Everest replacement, it has similar resistance to Fusarium head blight, or scab.  A medium-early maturity, medium height variety, with a good leaf disease package, Zenda has good yield potential and good acid soil tolerance.

WB4515 Wheat

WB4515, a new variety from WestBred, is adapted to South Central and Southeastern Kansas and Eastern Oklahoma.  It has superior test weight, excellent straw strength, and a strong disease package.  WB4515 is a medium short, medium early variety with a very competitive yield potential.

SY Monument Wheat

SY Monument is a top variety from AgriPro/Syngenta that is widely adapted for central and western Kansas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska, and the Texas Panhandle.  It is resistant to stripe rust and moderately resistant to leaf rust. Its maturity is medium late so it will not be as likely to be affected by a late spring freeze. SY Monument has very high tillering capability, very good winterhardiness, very good drought tolerance, very good shattering reputation, good test weight patterns, and is tolerant to acid soils. It is a medium tall wheat and has average straw strength.

LCS Pistol Wheat

LCS Pistol, from Limagrain Cereal Seeds, is a drought tolerant variety well suited for Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.  It is an offspring of the high yielding, popular T158.  LCS Pistol has good tolerance to acid soil and good winterhardiness. This variety has great tillering ability.  It is medium early, medium height and has excellent resistance to soilborne mosaic virus.

SY Flint Wheat

SY Flint, from AgriPro/Syngenta, comes with a strong pedigree and high end yield potential.  It is positioned for Kansas, most of Oklahoma, and the Texas panhandle.  In more western areas, it will do well under irrigation.  SY Flint is resistant to Hessian Fly and tolerant to acid soil and the barley yellow dwarf virus.  This variety has good test weight and grazing potential.  It is medium early and has average drought tolerance.

WB4458 Wheat

WestBred’s WB4458 is a medium maturity, medium height wheat with excellent yield records.  It has good staygreen capability, acid soil tolerance, and grazing potential.  WB4458 is very drought tolerant and is widely adapted.  It tends to have large seed and since it is not a high tillering variety, planting rates should be monitored.  WB4458 has a very good shattering reputation and excellent straw strength. In a year of heavy disease pressure, it may need a fungicide to protect its yield potential.

LCS Mint Wheat

LCS Mint, a beautiful, dark green, medium maturing, medium height variety from Limagrain Cereal Seeds, is adapted to central and western Kansas and and the western two-thirds of northern Oklahoma.  It has an excellent yield record, very good tolerance to acid soils, and outstanding test weight. LCS Mint is photoperiod sensitive, meaning its maturity relative to other varieties can vary from year to year.  This quality helps LCS Mint deliver a consistently high yield even when growing conditions vary. It has excellent drought tolerance, but straw strength is average and it is susceptible to leaf rust.

WB-Cedar Wheat

WB-Cedar, an early maturing WestBred® wheat, is still a great variety in central and eastern Kansas and northern Oklahoma.  It also does very well under irrigation in western Kansas.  It is high tillering, has excellent straw strength, and very good winterhardiness.  WB-Cedar is resistant to powdery mildew and moderately resistant to leaf rust and stripe rust. It also features good drought tolerance for tough conditions but it may be short in very dry years.

Gallagher Wheat

Gallagher, a release from Oklahoma Genetics, Inc., is one of the top varieties for southern Kansas and all of Oklahoma.  It has excellent yield and grazing potential, and very good drought tolerance. Gallagher has Duster and 2180 in its pedigree and has good tolerance to acid soils. It is resistant to Hessian fly and more resistant than most to barley yellow dwarf. Gallagher has resistance to the current races of stripe and leaf rust. It is a medium maturity wheat that breaks dormancy early.

Doublestop CL Plus Wheat

Doublestop CL+ is a newer two gene Clearfield wheat from Oklahoma Genetics, Inc. As a two gene variety, Doublestop CL+ has a strong herbicide tolerance for the Beyond herbicide and MSO to control unwanted cheat, goatgrass, feral rye, and other nasties. Doublestop CL+ has high yield potential, very good winterhardiness, test weight, and drought tolerance, as well as excellent grazing in the fall. It is a high tillering wheat with good straw strength. It is tolerant to acid soils. Doublestop CL+ is a medium late maturing variety and greens up later than most in the spring. It has an intermediate disease package and is best adapted to south central Kansas and north central Oklahoma. Growers must sign a stewardship agreement stating that they cannot keep the grain produced for seed.

AP503 CL2 Wheat

AgriPro® AP503 CL2 from Syngenta is a hard red winter wheat with two genes for tolerance to the Beyond family of herbicides. The use of methylated seed oil (MSO) with the herbicide can improve control of jointed goatgrass, feral rye, downy brome, and other problem grasses. AP503 CL2 has good test weight and straw strength, and is resistant to soil-borne mosaic. It is widely grown in central and western Kansas. This two gene wheat has very good drought tolerance as well as excellent winterhardiness. It has a slow start in the spring after dormancy. AP503 CL2 is susceptible to leaf rust and stripe rust and would respond well to a fungicide application. Growers must sign a stewardship agreement stating that they cannot keep the grain produced for seed.

Everest Wheat

Everest is an early maturing variety from the Kansas Wheat Alliance. It has very good yield potential, but may need a fungicide to protect it from stripe rust and tan spot.  Everest has more resistance to head scab than any other variety.  It is moderately resistant to barley yellow dwarf and Hessian fly. It has good acid soil tolerance, test weight, and straw strength.  Everest has good drought tolerance, but may need irrigation in the west.
